The Dukes Creek Falls Trail is a relatively moderate to easy trail that's about 1.1 miles one-way. The stars of the trail are the falls themselves, that one sees at the end of the trail. A swirling, whitewater chaos that is beautiful to see. These images were purposefully rendered in black and white, to emphasize the textures and values in the subjects.
Yonah Mountain can be seen from the parking lot before heading off on the trail. The observation deck near the beginning is part of a series of wooden bridges and platforms. Once away from the stairs and bridges, the trail is unpaved. The side of the trail was rife with exposed roots and trees growing out of the hillside. Many of the exposed roots were twisted into bizarre shapes. This tree was determined to grow around this boulder, extending long roots to reach the soil. I love the texture of the bark on this tree. I did see some evidence of the recent onset of spring. Looking across the creek at the base of the observation deck, you see the tallest of the waterfalls. The confluence of the many falls was a swirling chaos of whitewater. The observation platform itself was an impressive structure. Another section of the observation platform offers a view of this cascade.
