These images were taken at the Twin Arches Trail in the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area just a few weeks before spring 2017.
This is a view from the top of the northern arch. After getting off the steep stairs from the top, one can approach the south arch. The southern arch is a stunning example of erosion. This arch is massive, soaring far overhead. The arches are not the only impressive examples of erosion patterns in the area. All around the arch, there are small cracks and crevices caused by erosion. The walls are pockmarked and twisted into fascinating arabesques. The patterns in the rock are at times both weird and creepy. The northern arch is just as impressive as the southern arch. I took one last look at the arch before heading onto the rest of the trail loop. The path wound around rocky ridges and overhangs. On my right, as I walked, there were always beautiful patterns in the rock. Yeah, I got kind of obsessed with the rocks. And then my battery ran out.
