The Eastatoe Creek Heritage Preserve trail is a 1.7-mile trail down to the creek that is its namesake. It is relatively easy, but there is some elevation to navigate during the last .5 miles of the trip. The trailhead is just off US 178, not far from the border between South Carolina and North Carolina.
The drive up to the trailhead is a very rough, rutted gravel road, so I walked the last quarter of a mile from the main parking area. The trail was quite green this time of year, and lined with ferns. I couldn't help but be fascinated by the textures of the lush foliage. The recent rains left evidence on the trees. Much of the trail was dark, because of the heavy tree cover. The trees reached high, surrounding the trail. Every now and again, there was a view of the surrounding mountains. Just a view of the trail, as it gets close to the creek. At the end of the trail, I spent some time out on the rocks near the creek, enjoying the view of the cascades.
