Hidden Falls is a 2.7-mile waterfall hike within the Oconee State Park in upstate South Carolina. Although the water level was low at the time these images were shot, the waterfall was still beautiful, as was the area around it.
Not far on the trail, there were plenty of fascinating fungi. These guys got my attention with the amazing shape of their tops. The trail showed the first signs of autumn. The trunk of this tree caught my eye as I passed by. This little fungus was hanging inside the stump of an old tree. Partway along the trail, it follows and then crosses an old service road. After crossing the road, the trail continues down into the forest. Here's another little interesting mushroom with a great color. This bizarre fungus was all over the side of the trail. The water level was rather low, but it was still impressive. These mushrooms were all over fallen logs near the falls. The waterfall itself is tiered, but near the lower parts, there are smaller streams and cascades. I have no idea what this is, but wow. [Turns out, this is Hearts a Bustin' with Love, or Euonymus americanus]
