These images were taken on the Huskey Gap Trail, a 4.2-mile round trip trail in the Great Smokey Mountains. It's a pretty moderate trail with a steady elevation change throughout.
Since it is winter, I rendered the images as black and white. The trail wound through a very rocky wilderness, with boulders on all sides and sometimes in the middle of the trail. The trees stuck up through the boulders like spines. The boulders were often sparsely covered with a blanket of moss. At one point, one could hear the rush of water underneath the rocky hillside, and it emptied out near the trail. Just to one side of the trail, this twisting of vines and branches dangled. Another shot of the trees along the trail.
