The Johnstone Trail is part of a network of trails just outside of the Clemson campus, the Fant's Grove Wildlife Management Area. The Johnstone Trail is a relatively easy trail, about 2.5 miles, also in use by horseback riders. During the winter, the trail is not a bad walk, even if it's not the most scenic.
The root structure exposed by fallen trees is incredibly complex. Much of the trail is covered by a thick carpet of pine needles. There are many calm glades along the trail. As with other trails in winter, moss adds a great splash of green to the otherwise brown and gray landscape. I do love the view of the sky through the trees. Just an image of the trail. I had to get down in the dirt for this shot, but I like it. I took the road back, to complete a loop.
