Station Cove Falls is reached by a trail that starts from the Oconee Station State Historic site, in upstate South Carolina. This site is one of the state's first frontier outposts in the mountains, and the waterfall is an impressive tiered cascade that is reminiscent of Yellow Branch and Issaqueena Falls. The trail itself is a relatively easy hike of about 2.5 miles round trip.
The trail starts out going across a dam over the park pond. This butterfly was nearby as we crossed the pond. The trail was pretty heavily wooded once you get past the dam, and at the time we were there, rife with spiderwebs. Sometimes you need to look up to watch for the spiders. The trees were still heavily green, even in very late summer. An old tree stump seemed worth a shot. Station Cove Falls were beautiful, a tiered waterfall in a secluded area of the park. Each section of the waterfall was beautiful. All in all, it was a very serene spot. i loved the play of light and color on the surface of the creek at the base of the falls.
