The Lower Whitewater Falls Trail is on Hwy. 130, just south of the North Carolina border. This trail takes you to an overlook that provides a view of the Lower Whitewater Falls, a beautiful waterfall. The hike, a moderately strenuous one, takes you over large streams and through rhododendron forests.

The trail starts off in relatively open terrain 
The trail enters a rhododendron forest 
A small mushroom on top of a bed of brilliant green moss 
Mushroom carrying water like a goblet 
Always fond of ferns 
Bridge over a beautiful mountain stream 
Strange yellow fungus like a flame 
The overlook provides a view of the falls across a heavily forested gorge 
The waterfall spills over a sheer cliff face 
Small family of mushrooms 
These blooms were all over the area 
Just up the road is the upper Whitewater Falls
