The Communications Team at the Franklin College requested a blog site to be used as the primary source of news and information for the college, the Franklin Chronicles. This site was the first site designed in collaboration with Lauren Blais, my fellow graphic/web designer when I worked with the Franklin Web Team. This site was also the first site that we did in Drupal 7, and the first designed with responsiveness and mobile-readiness from the beginning. We co-created the original design, based on a number of possibilities that we tossed around, and on the needs of the Communications Team.
During development, while I focused on the primary code base and the custom theming, Lauren created beautiful headers for the main category pages. The site was launched at the beginning of Spring 2012, and since then has served the college well. All images are flexible, including the movies displayed in the blog posts.
In early Spring 2012, once the site had been working well, I created custom code to provide an RSS feed and the appropriate code to allow the Franklin College site to pull in stories from the blog, categorize them, and display them according to logic provided by the Communications Team. This took the place of the previous Franklin News application, that I had designed and developed two years prior.
