Ice and Serenity

Even though I live in a particularly rural part of the country, it's still nice to get out of the "city" and away from all of the trappings thereof. And some weeks are worse than others, making the need to get out just that much more important.

So, this was just another quick trip out, back to the Frank Coggins Trail in the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area near Caesar's Head State Park. This is just a brief trail, only taking about 45 minutes to complete, but it at least gives one a little exercise walking through a lovely forested area.

This time, it was a bit colder than one would expect for late March. In fact, as you'll see from some of the pictures, it was so cold that there were icicles near a small waterfall. But it was still a nice walk, and it provided some much-needed serenity.

During the hike, I listened to some episodes of the BBC podcast, A History of the World in 100 Objects. This is a fantastic history podcast, with each episode being only about 20 minutes or so. It's well worth a listen, and all of the episodes are available for download.
